Regular giving

Many people do not realize that the church is funded by what its members give.

Finances have been difficult for many (including the parish) during the Covid Pandemic, and they continue to be challenging with inflation increasing and prices rising. Nevertheless, many church members continue to give generously to the work of the church.

It is this regular giving by ordinary church members that enables the church to appropriately fund itself and its activities and in turn enabling the church to give to and support others.

The Biblical principles are that we should give a tithe, a tenth or 10% of our income to God (through the church) and give to the poor.

Tithing is clearly easier for those with more disposable income than it is for those who struggle to make ends meet. But it seems that Jesus rejected legalism – the intention, therefore, should be to give to God, through the church, what delights and pleases him.

It doesn’t matter how much that is – Jesus commended the widow who put into the temple treasury two small copper coins. In God’s economy it is not how much you give that counts it is where you put it! In Jesus’ hands one boy’s lunch of five rolls and two fish fed a crowd of many thousands.

We are a church together, we are in this together and the conversation of how much you should put in Jesus’ hands to delight and please him is one only you can have with God!
